LSU taps Peetz, Mangas as top offensive coaches

Ed Orgeron

He has been named the passing game coordinator at LSU after spending the 2019 season on the school's staff. With Brady and Steve Ensminger working as co-offensive coordinators in 2019, the Tigers went undefeated and finished as the top-rated offense in the FBS, averaging 568.5 yards and 48.4 points per game. Peetz was the team's quarterbacks coach under Brady this season.

Pete Thamel reported on Monday LSU was expected to conduct an interview with Panthers offensive assistant DJ Mangas, who is being targeted as the passing game coordinator. Before that, he was the second-youngest offensive coordinator in Division I at William & Mary.

Joe Brady is already receiving interest for possible head coach jobs. "Jake brings 10 years of National Football League experience with him to our staff". Mangas, 31, worked with Brady this past season and was an offensive analyst at LSU in 2019.

The Panthers will also have to replace offensive assistant DJ Mangas. Top receiver Ja'Marr Chase opted out before the season and receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. and prized freshman tight end Arik Gilbert also opted out during the season.

Peetz, a former Nebraska defensive back, has spent two seasons with Carolina and before that was with the Oakland Raiders (2015-17), Washington Redskins (2014) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2012).

Without Brady in Baton Rouge this past season, LSU's offense took a major step back.

Peetz, who has spent the last two years with the Carolina Panthers, was an offensive analyst for the Crimson Tide in 2013 and then again in 2018.
