Graveley told reporters during a two-hour presentation Tuesday afternoon that investigators determined that the events leading up to the shooting began when the mother of Blake's children called police and said Blake was about to drive off in her vehicle. Sheskey then shot four bullets into Blake's back, and three into the side of his torso.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice, which is the investigating agency, said Sheskey and several other Kenosha officers were attempting to arrest Blake at the time.

"It's really evidence about the perspective of Officer Sheskey at each moment, and what would a reasonable officer do", Gravely continued, citing an admission allegedly made by Blake that he had a knife in his vehicle as justification for Sheskey's conduct. "All the discussion that he's unarmed contradicts even what he himself has said multiple times".

The district attorney said he "would have to disprove the clear expression of these officers that they had to fire a weapon to defend themselves".

Blake, 29, was shot by officer Rusten Sheskey on August 23 after an altercation between Blake and multiple officers.

An attorney for the Blake family said (quote) "We will continue to press forward with our own investigation and fight for systemic change in policing and transparency at all levels". "Black groups are organized and have a lot more allies now than they had five years ago".
