The British want to join the CPTPP Free Trade Agreement

What is particularly interesting about deals signed with Japan (worth £31.6 billion in 2019), Singapore (worth $224.8 billion (£17billion)), and Vietnam (worth $6.7 billion in 2019) being one of the world's fastest-growing emerging markets is that it predominantly serves "further strengthening the UK's involvement in the [Asia] region and ultimately as a springboard for joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement", as Pinsent Masonstrade expert Dr. Totis Kotsonis argues.

"A year after we left the European Union, we are forging new partnerships that will bring tremendous economic benefits to the British people", Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement.

"Joining CPTPP will create enormous opportunities for United Kingdom businesses that simply weren't there as part of the European Union and deepen our ties with some of the fastest-growing markets in the world", said Truss.

U.K. International Trade Secretary Liz Truss spoke with Yasutoshi Nishimura, Japan's minister for the pact and chair of the CPTPP Commission in 2021, and Damien O'Connor, New Zealand's minister for trade and export growth - the country serving as the depository for official CPTPP documentation - to get the ball rolling.

The government said joining CPTPP would remove tariffs on food and drink and cars, while helping to boost the technology and services sectors.

"Joining the treaty will provide "huge opportunities", said Liz Truss, "it will mean lower tariffs for automakers and whiskey producers and better access for our excellent service providers", creating quality jobs and greater prosperity for the people here ".

"We're at the front of the queue and look forward to starting formal negotiations in the coming months", Truss was quoted as saying in a statement.

Either everyone is locked down - or everyone opens. "This is what unequal enforcement looks like", Gantz said on Twitter. Parliament earlier voted to double fines for lockdown violators to 10,000 shekels ($3,051).

"This ambition marks a new chapter for our independent trade policy".

'More generally, people will rightly ask why we have been through five years of debate in Britain over leaving a trade bloc with our closest neighbours only to rush into joining another one on the other side of the world without any meaningful public consultation at all'.

Eleven other countries continued in the CPDP. She has touted joining as Britain made agreements with members such as Japan and Canada in the wake of Brexit, with British media reporting that CPTPP nations accounted for around 8% of United Kingdom exports in 2019. Also, business firms will be able to thrive and succeed more than ever.

"The rules will not be changed for one country", said Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, who handled TPP negotiations as Japan's top trade negotiator after then-President Donald Trump pulled the US out the agreement the year before it took effect.

Nonetheless, the new EU-UK trade and cooperation agreement ultimately makes trading goods and services between the two parties more hard, as well as poses a threat of reimposing tariffs if the latter diverges too far from the former's rules.

"It is important that we take a stand to support multilateralism and the global trading system, there has been too much undermining of the rules-based order", Ms Truss said during a call with her Japanese and New Zealand counterparts.
