Three Acadiana men involved in a murder-for-hire plot gone wrong in Montegut are now facing additional charges, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office tells WDSU.
The three men have all been booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and each are being held in lieu of a $2million bond. The women were found shot inside a home and pronounced dead at the scene.
Beaux Cormier, 35, Andrew Eskine, 25, and Dalvin Wilson, 22, are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet said during a news conference Monday.
The woman who had accused Mr Cormier of rape was not at the home, investigators said. In November, the two men tried to kill the woman but were unsuccessful.
He then hired two men, identified as 25-year-old Andrew Eskine and 22-year-old Dalvin Wilson, to murder his niece so she could not testify against him. The victim in the case was Cormier's relative.
Cormier, a convicted sex offender, was previously charged with raping a family member in March. Investigators later learned the men had conducted surveillance on the home in the weeks leading up to the shooting.
Cops: When Hit Men Came, She Lied, Took Bullet for Daughter
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Timothy Soginet claimed Brittany told one of the men she was the rape victim in an attempt to spare her niece.
Cops said Wilson returned to the home using Eskine's truck on January 13 to commit the double murder.
The day of the incident, Eskine was out of town working, but reportedly facilitated the vehicle and plan to carry out the alleged murders, the post continued.
Before she was shot, Brittany Cormier reportedly told the shooting suspect that she was the rape victim, "likely saving the life of the actual rape victim". She tried to struggle with the gunman shortly before getting shot, the sheriff said. The key suspect is Beaux Cormier, 35. Eskine and Wilson have already confessed to their involvement in the killings. He was also a pallbearer when she was laid to rest January 20th.
District Attorney Joe Waitz Jr. said he will consider increasing the bond amounts as the suspects await trial.
Brittany Cormier was shot to death by Wilson after telling him she was the rape victim, which may have saved the life of the intended target, Soignet said.
