Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced his opposition to Neera Tanden's nomination to serve as director of the White House's Office of Management and Budget on Friday, likely signaling the Biden administration will not have the votes for confirmation.

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said he is opposing President Biden's nominee to run the Office of Management and Budget, Neera Tanden.

In a statement, Manchin said that the "overtly partisan" statements that Tanden had made about lawmakers on both sides of the aisle would have a "toxic and detrimental impact" on her ability to work with Congress in the role.

Her apology for the tweets during her confirmation hearings was apparently not enough for Manchin, who broke party line to approve President Trump's appointees, including in his vote to confirm twitter troll Ric Grenell as Trump's ambassador to Germany.

"As I have said before", Manchin stated, "we must take meaningful steps to end the political division and dysfunction that pervades our politics". "At a time of grave crisis, it is more important than ever that we chart a new bipartisan course that helps address the many serious challenges facing our nation". As OMB nominee, President Biden selected her to fill one of the most powerful positions in the White House, responsible for producing the president's budget and overseeing agency programs, policies, and procedures to determine if they comply with the president's policies and priorities.

Power outages linger for millions as another icy storm looms
Power companies in Texas have implemented rolling blackouts to avoid grids being overloaded as residents crank up the heat. Further inland, Chicago was expecting to see up to 14 inches of snow before the end of the cold snap.

Tanden has been criticized by Republicans over her past harsh comments on social media, such as calling Mitch McConnell, the party's leader in the Senate, "Moscow Mitch" and saying 'vampires have more heart than (Senator) Ted Cruz'. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and the GOP senators who were up for election who "enable him".

Tanden was also grilled by Sen.

"Susan Collins" bad treatment of Dr. Ford should haunt Collins the rest of her days, ' Tanden tweeted during the contentious Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, when Susan Blasey Ford raised allegations against him.

Many Democrats scoffed at such concerns, noting near-unanimous Republican support for former President Donald Trump, who was accused of inciting a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol partly via inflammatory comments on Twitter and was known for blasting those he saw as opponents - particularly women - as "nasty" or criminals who should be locked up. There were vicious attacks made against progressives. "I would say social media does lead to too many personal comments and my approach will be radically different".

During her confirmation hearings before the Senate Budget Committee and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Tanden apologized for her past remarks.
