Two large hospitals in the city reported no running water, leading to the cancellation of nonemergency procedures through at least Friday. Authorities said cities and residents will be notified when the water is safe to consume.

"There is enough generation on the electric system to allow us to begin to return to more normal operating conditions", said Dan Woodfin, ERCOT senior director of system operations, in a statement.
