Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Covid-19 testing czar and National Task Force (NTF) deputy chief implementer Secretary Vince Dizon, and Senator Christopher Lawrence Go witnessed the arrival and collectively extended gratitude to China on behalf of the Philippine government.

On February this year, a Chinese military cargo plane delivered 600,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines in the Philippines.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian turned over the vaccines to the Philippines. "This is considered a milestone flight for PAL as it marks the flag carrier's first airlift of COVID-19 vaccines to Manila from an global hub and makes PAL the first local carrier to fetch and carry home much-needed vaccines for our country", PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said.

Sinovac has supplied 160 million vaccine doses to 18 countries and regions including China, with over 70 million doses administered.

From the initial 1,125,600 Sinovac and AstraZeneca doses delivered, 818,100 have been released for the first dose, based on Department of Health (DoH) data as of March 23.

Protesters carried placards with slogans such as "The Day Democracy Became Dictatorship" and "We Can't Be Silenced That Easy". Pictures showed mounted officers intervening to disperse the large crowd that had gathered outside the police station.

Sinovac said its COVID-19 vaccine is safe in children ages three to 17, based on preliminary data, and it has submitted the data to Chinese drug regulators.

A total of 80.46 million vaccine doses were given by Monday, Xinhua said. "We are preparing to set up regional vaccination sites for domestically produced vaccines in countries where conditions permit, to provide services to compatriots in need in neighbouring countries", diplomat Wang Yi had told.

Duque, meanwhile, reiterated the existing prioritization framework for the COVID-19 vaccines. "We will get to that point where everyone will be given their shot", Ms. Vergeire said in a mix of English and Filipino.

The one million Sinovac doses brought by the government would arrive on March 29.

The death toll rose by 47 to 13,039, while recoveries increased by 1,072 to 579,518, it said in a bulletin.
