Ontario Health Minister gets AstraZeneca shot today before Health Canada changes recommendations

AstraZeneca Covid Shots Not Recommended For Under 55s In Canada

"The primary use of AstraZeneca in Saskatchewan to date was at the drive-through clinic in Regina, with more than 15,000 doses available to residents 58 years and older", the government said in a media release.

"Out of an abundance of caution, Manitoba will be recommending that these vaccines only be used in people who are 55 and older at this time", she told reporters Monday in Winnipeg.

NACI indicates that cases have primarily been in women under the age of 55, although cases in men have been reported as well, and mostly occurring between four and 16 days after receipt of the vaccine.

"This adverse event is being referred to as Vaccine-Induced Prothrombotic Immune Thrombocytopenia (VIPIT)". "I understand there have been blood cots in patients in the UK. But I won't hesitate to cancel that [AstraZeneca vaccine] in half a heartbeat if it's going to put anyone at harm, we just won't use it".

The government also says Moderna will make good on its promised delivery of 600,000 shots this coming Thursday, which is about a week later than expected.

"Health Canada's guidance issued to health-care practitioners last week still stands, and provides vaccine recipients with information on the signs and symptoms to monitor for following vaccination", a statement from Health Canada issued Monday says. That being said, a higher rate of one in 100,000 people who received the vaccine was reported by the Paul-Ehrlich Institut in Germany.

"Typically, the symptoms happen 4 to 20 days after immunization and the symptoms can mirror the symptoms of a stroke or heart attack."

The GOP is also cracking down on methods that counties used to increase participation and make voting easier during the pandemic. Another aspect of the new law allows the state's board of elections to determine which county boards are underperforming.

Canada's Chief Medica Advisor Dr. Supriya Sharma says there have yet to be any reports of these aforementioned side effects in the country.

Germany's Robert Koch Institute for infectious diseases (RKI) reported 9,549 new COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours on Tuesday. However, through our ongoing worldwide collaboration, Health Canada has become aware that additional cases of these events have been reported in Europe. Another 54,600 doses of the vaccine are expected to arrive in this province this week.

"As you know, AstraZeneca has been under examination by a number of jurisdictions for its connection to potentially adverse effects", said Hajdu on Monday.

The province will carry on with injections for those between 55 and 64 because, as Reimer said, the risks of catching the virus and the severe outcomes it can lead to outweighs the risk of the rare blood-clotting events.

Morrison said she hopes this doesn't dissuade people from getting a vaccine.

"It's important for everyone, when it's their turn, to get a vaccine because the more people that get vaccines, the sooner we'll be able to go back to a more normal life for everyone", Elliott said from the Toronto pharmacy where she got the shot.

The move was a response to COVID-19 outbreaks on the Island that were concentrated among young people.
