© NYPD The New York City Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying a man who was caught on video repeatedly kicking a 65-year-old Asian American woman in Midtown Manhattan on March 29, 2021.

The New York City Police Department said it is investigating two incidents of assault that targeted an Asian woman, who was stomped in the head, and an Asian man, who was punched and choked on the New York City subway.

NY accounted for the largest surge from three in 2019 to 28 in 2020, a 833 percent increase in anti-Asian hate crimes.

The New York Post reported that the NYPD is still waiting for the victim to come forward before determining if there was bias in the incident.

Some commenters observed that the attacker walked away with the white Apple bag that the victim was initially holding, departing the train coach at the end of the video.

"The victim sustained a serious physical injury and was removed by EMS to NYU Langone Hospital", where she was stable, police said in a statement. The company that manages the building where the attack occurred says it has suspended the employees who did not offer aid to the woman, pending an investigation.

"I don't know who attacks a 65-year-old woman and leaves her on the street like that", he said on TV station NY1.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force has shared the video on social media in hopes to get information that could lead to an arrest.

Since Friday, the New York City Police Department has ramped up patrols in predominately Asian communities, including the Queens neighborhood of Flushing and its Chinatown, according to Shea.

"Asian Americans for too long in this country have been shamefully scapegoated because of ignorant fear", New York Rep. Grace Meng said. According to a report from Stop AAPI Hate, more than 3,795 incidents in the United States were reported to the organisation from March 19, 2020, to February 28, 2021.

Eight people were killed in a mass shooting at three spas in Atlanta on 16 March, and six of the eight were Asian-Americans. Rallies have been held in dozens of US cities in recent weeks calling for an end to anti-Asian violence.
