NSW records no new COVID cases

Several venues are on alert in the renowned holiday town including The Farm and Beach hotel.

On Wednesday, NSW recorded one new case of Covid-19, a man in his 20s who was at the same venue linked to several Covid cases in Queensland.

Anyone who was at the Byron Beach Hotel on March 26 between 7.15pm and 8.30pm must isolate for 14 days and get tested.

Festival organisers have a government-approved Covid-19 safety plan in place after the event was cancelled previous year, but the Queensland outbreak could put the Easter event in jeopardy.

Chief health officer Jeanette Young said authorities are now trying to determine whether the nurse caught Covid in the same ward.

"We are continuing to monitor the situation closely to ensure the event is COVID-safe", a statement on the website said.

Three of the new cases are close contacts of existing or historical cases but those infected may have been out in the community - raising the risk more transmission may have occurred.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and the state's health authorities are due to decide on a possible extension of the lockdown this evening, but previously warned a further escalation of cases could see the directive pushed back.

NT shuts borders to Byron as region on high COVID alert

On Monday Ms Manison announced the cities of Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay region, Redland City and the Toowoomba region were hot spots.

More than two million residents living in those areas will be allowed outside only for essential reasons - for work, for exercise, to buy essential supplies or for care.

The UK strain of coronavirus - known as B117 - is believed to be at least 50 per cent more transmissable than other variants.

Palaszczuk said at a media update today she was "very pleased" with today's test results, adding 33,408 tests were completed overnight. "And I do want to thank Queenslanders for coming out and doing that", she said.

Either way, if you went to either of the above places at those dates and times, you must get tested, go into quarantine, monitor for any COVID-19 symptoms and get retested if any arise - and stay in self-isolation for the whole fortnight even if you receive a negative result.

One of the cases had travelled to Gladstone.

She said a decision on extending or expanded Greater Brisbane's lockdown would depend on what the numbers looked like on Thursday morning.
