Jackson County, which averaged around 50 daily new cases the week of March 18, is now averaging 121 daily new cases in the last seven days, data shows.

Douglas County reported 8,922 cases of COVID-19 as of Tuesday, an increase of 20 cases since Monday.

There are now 1,467 active cases of COVID-19 within the county, which is more than double the 783 active cases the county reported on March 18, data shows.

In Jackson County, young adults in their 20s have had the highest number of new COVID-19 cases since cases began to surge, which follows statewide trends. New Mexico's seven-day case average is now 188, according to a Journal analysis.

An Eddy County woman in her 20s and a Chaves County woman in her 100s are among the latest New Mexico COVID-19 patients to die, according to the state Department of Health.

The pair urge everyone to be cautious ahead of the upcoming long weekend.

Senior US health official ‘scared’ by Covid-19 trajectory
However, Fauci warned , "if we open up completely now, that is premature given the level of infection". About 2.6 million doses are being administered each day.

"The risk for all of us is too great, which means any of our usual travel and holiday weekend gatherings need to be put on hold this year", they say. 301 are now hospitalized, 80 of whom are in intensive care units.

For COVID-19 testing in Jackson County, residents can contact the Henry Ford COVID-19 patient hotline at 517-205-6100, or the Center for Family Health hotline at 517-748-5363. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation. Cases the county reports as "other", or people whose ethnicities go unreported, are at 17.8%.

Officials did not have data available Wednesday on the number of new variant cases in the province. More than 27% have received at least one dose of the vaccines that require two shots, by Pfizer and Moderna.

Because of safety considerations for those under 55, B.C.is now waiting on Health Canada's recommendation before resuming vaccination of front-line workers who were to receive the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, according to Henry and Dix.

The announcement comes one day after British Columbia health officials paused the use of AstraZeneca vaccines in people under the age of 55 in response to European reports of rare but potentially fatal blood clots.
