Some Johnson & Johnson Covid Vaccine Doses Delayed in United States by Factory Mix-Up

Jersey City opens mobile COVID-19 vaccination site

The vaccine rollout across the country has continued to ramp up, and the Times report says the delay isn't going to affect the Biden administration's timeline to provide enough vaccines for all American adults.

A batch of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine failed quality standards and can't be used, the drug giant said late Wednesday.

A vaccine ingredient made by Emergent BioSolutions - one of about 10 companies that Johnson & Johnson is using to speed up manufacturing of its recently approved vaccine - did not meet quality standards, J&J said.

Moving forward, J&J is moving to implement tighter controls at its manufacturing partner, the company's statement said.

Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine rollout has been slower than expected in the US, with just 6.8 million doses delivered to states in the first month.

Mr Biden has set a goal for nearly 100 million doses by the end of May.

Johnson & Johnson said it still plans to deliver 100 million by the end of June, "aiming to deliver those doses by the end of May".

The offices and manufacturing facility of Emergent Biosolutions, which is manufacturing vaccines for AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson, are seen through a security fence on February 8, 2021, in Baltimore, Maryland.

"Johnson & Johnson is providing additional experts in manufacturing, technical operations and quality to be on-site at Emergent to supervise, direct and support all manufacturing of the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine", it said. Emergent declined to comment.

The company also said it had met its commitment to deliver more than 20 million single-shot vaccines by the end of March in the United States. He relied on that in moving up his timeline on when the USA would have enough vaccine to cover all adults.
