People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can safely travel within the United States and overseas as long as they continue to take precautions like wearing a mask in public, according to new guidance released Friday by the the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Worldwide travelers who've been vaccinated also don't need to take a COVID test before heading overseas, unless their destination country requires one, or self-quarantine upon arriving back in the US.
The CDC also said that fully protected people could hug and gather indoors with other fully vaccinated people without masks. Transportation Safety Administration's numbers show more than 1 million passengers have passed through airport security almost every day in March.
Although the government hasn't required the coronavirus vaccine for travel, officials said anyone who is two weeks past his or her final shot doesn't need a COVID test before going on domestic trips.
Taiwan train crash: At least 34 killed, 72 injured
During the festival, people return to ancestral villages to tidy up the tombs of their relatives and make offerings. The last major train derailment in Taiwan was in 2018 and left 18 people dead at the southern end of the same line.
Jacy Smith, of Shirley, says she thinks these updated guidelines will also make more people want to get vaccinated.
The CDC did not revise guidance for non-vaccinated people.
More than 57 million people in the U.S. have been fully vaccinated, either through the two-dose Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
According to Reuters, the CDC's new guidance says fully vaccinated people would only need the Covid-19 test before global travel if it is required by the worldwide destination. According to the health authorities, the pandemic causes an average of about 1,000 deaths per day in the United States.
