CDC says fully vaccinated Americans can resume low-risk travel

The CDC Has Announced New Guidelines For Fully Vaccinated Travelers

"I would advocate against general travel overall", she said.

The new guidance also says fully vaccinated people do not need to get a COVID-19 test before or after domestic travel and do not need to self-quarantine after travel.

According to the CDC, almost 100 million people in the US - or about 30% of the population - have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The new CDC guidance specifically greenlights vaccinated grandparents getting on airplanes to see grandchildren. The CDC also stressed that the latest announcement applied only to those who are fully vaccinated, and called on the unvaccinated to continue to avoid travel.

Some Minnesota politicians want vaccinated people to become exempt from travel restrictions impacting the Canada- U.S. border.

JUST IN: CDC Announces Fully Vaccinated People are Cleared to Travel
Travel now safe for the fully vaccinated, but CDC recommends against nonessential trips

Just four weeks ago, the CDC held its ground with regards to their no-travel mantra by announcing that Americans should avoid all travel - even those who had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

For worldwide travel, fully vaccinated people do not need to get a COVID-19 test before they leave the United States unless it is required by their global destination. However, they would still need to take the test if the destination rules state so.

Already, air travel in the United States has been picking back up. Last month, the agency said fully vaccinated people could visit with each other indoors without wearing masks or social distancing.

The CDC had repeatedly declined in recent weeks to change the guidance and repeated it was still discouraging all non-essential travel because of a concern about new variants. The Transportation Security Administration reported more than 1.5 million travelers going through airports on Thursday, an increase of 400 percent since its lowest point in the pandemic in April, according to the TSA. Vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna require two doses given a few weeks apart.
