People fully vaccinated for coronavirus can travel safely again, CDC says

US says vaccinated people can travel with precautions

People who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 can travel freely in the USA, as long as they remain masked on planes, buses, and trains, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday.

If you are fully vaccinated, the CDC advises that you gather indoors without wearing a mask, but encourage social distance and wear a mask with others that aren't vaccinated.

In addition, the agency's updated guidance says that fully vaccinated people do not need COVID-19 tests before worldwide travel unless it is required by their destination and vaccinated people returning from global destinations do not need to self-quarantine upon their return, unless required by state or/and local authorities.

Fully vaccinated people can travel within the United States and COVID-19 testing or post-travel self-quarantine are not required as long as they continue to take COVID-19 precautions while traveling - wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, socially distancing, and washing hands frequently, said the CDC.

A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their last dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

The new advice comes after months of the CDC urging all Americans to avoid any kind of non-essential travel. If they do travel, the agency says to get tested one to three days before the trip, and three to five days after.

Four killed in shooting in Southern California, police say
Six of the victims were women of Asian descent, spurring concerns that the gunman was motivated by anti-Asian hatred. Wednesday evening's shooting marks the third multiple-victim shooting in almost as many weeks.

- Fully vaccinated people can travel within the US, without getting tested for the coronavirus or quarantining. They do not need to quarantine.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said the highest daily total of people at USA airports was 1.57 million on Sunday last. The agency noted the potential introduction of virus variants and differences in vaccine coverage around the world for the cautious guidance on overseas travel.

Already, air travel in the United States has been picking back up.

Airlines do not require COVID-19 tests or proof of vaccination for travel in the U.S. The agency cited "recent studies" of real-world evidence proving vaccines work outside of a clinical trial environment.

The U.S. began its vaccine rollout in mid-December.

This latest guidance offers another step toward resuming normal activity for those who have received both doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna shots or one shot of the single-dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson.
