Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday condoled the death of US Capitol Police Officer William Evans, saying that he "made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the Capitol and those who work there on behalf of the American people".
According to Metropolitan Police, just after 1:00 pm EST, a man, later identified as a 25-year-old from IN named Noah Green, rammed his blue sedan into two Capitol Police officers and then hit the north barricade barrier.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to Officer Evans' family, and everyone grieving his loss", President Joe Biden said in a statement. "Please keep Officer Evans and his family in your thoughts and prayers". Both Capitol Police officers were taken to the hospital, with one having "succumbed to his injuries", Capitol Police Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman told reporters.
According to CNN, the White House press secretary Jen Psaki said President Biden is "aware" of the Capitol incident.
The suspect in Friday's attack on Capitol Police reportedly suffered mental issues, alleging that U.S. government agencies were spying on him, several media reports suggest.
In Instagram stories, some posted just hours before the attack, Green blamed the USA government for his issues and wrote he believed federal law enforcement agencies were trying to conduct mind-control experiments on him, according to CNN.
Friday's attack on the U.S. Capitol that ultimately killed a Capitol Police Officer William Evans and a 25-year-old assailant Noah Green has raised questions about what kind of attacks are preventable, and what law enforcement could do to ensure a similar situation does not happen again.

Police said Green rammed his auto into the officers at 1:02 p.m. and then exited the vehicle and lunged at them.
The US Capitol complex has been locked down.
In one post he spoke of being tormented by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Central Intelligence Agency, hospitalised and subjected to "mind control", and called the government "the #1 enemy of Black people!"
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hailed Evans as a "martyr for our democracy", while Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he was "heartbroken".
"Jill and I were heartbroken to learn of the violent attack at a security checkpoint on the US Capitol grounds", Biden said in a statement. Two Capitol Police officers also died by suicide after the attack, and dozens of officers were injured.
Per the AP, "Fencing that prevented vehicular traffic near that area was recently removed as the Capitol has started to open up after the January 6 riots".
