Maryland police responded Tuesday morning to an active shooter situation near Fort Detrick in Frederick, authorities confirmed. "There are two victims with status unknown".

Police had been called to the first scene, about a 4-mile drive east of Fort Detrick, around 8:20 a.m., Lando said.

"One of the victims who was wounded entered our facility looking for help and we were able to assist and call the authorities", said Mutschler, who is based in NY.

The sailor made it onto the base, where Fort Detrick police shot him, according to Fort Detrick Garrison Command.

After the shooting, a victim entered a nearby business, Nicolock Paving Stones, and asked for help, a person there said.
