Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson responds to European Super League proposals

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo dribbles past AC Milan player Diogo Dalot

Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City have signed up to the breakaway plan, according to reports.

'The Premier League condemns any proposal that attacks the principles of open competition and sporting merit which are at the heart of the domestic and European football pyramid.

It has been agreed the new-look Champions League will involve an initial phase where every club plays 10 matches each rather than the current group phase.

Ferguson, who won the Champions League twice with Manchester United after having European success with Scottish club Aberdeen, said that he enjoyed "special nights" in the Champions League.

"Everton are spending £500 million to build a new stadium with the ambition to play in Champions League".

In January, European media reported plans for a breakaway European league, citing a document which outlined a 20-team league, outside of UEFA's control, made up of 15 permanent members and five who would qualify for the competition annually.

"If this were to happen, we wish to reiterate that we.will remain united in our efforts to stop this cynical project, a project that is founded on the self-interest of a few clubs at a time when society needs solidarity more than ever".

The European body since backed by various national associations has come out strongly against the proposed new league.

UEFA issued a statement on Sunday in conjunction with major domestic bodies such as the Football Association (FA) and the Premier League, and their Italian and Spanish counterparts.

Third dose likely needed after receiving two Pfizer vaccine shots: MOH official
It seems strong but there is some waning of that and no doubt the variants challenge. they make these vaccines work harder. He explained: "We don't know everything at this moment".

The Premier League have already released a statement threatening to ban any team that decides to take part - but an impassioned Neville called for immediate action on air, as he labelled the treatment of fans "criminal".

It added that it would also work with the players' and managers' unions - the PFA and LMA - along with the English Football League and Premier League, motivated by the objective "to defend the integrity and future prospects of English football in the best interests of the game".

'I think to bring forward proposals in the midst of COVID, in the midst of the economic crisis, is an absolute scandal, ' he said.

"United and the rest of the Big Six that have signed up to it against the rest of the Premier League should be ashamed of themselves".

'I can't concentrate on the game. they should deduct all six teams that have signed up to it. "Deduct points off them all - to do it during a season, it's a joke". To do it during a season?

Among the top clubs expected to be part of the Super League are Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid. Obviously, we've not heard anything from Federation Internationale de Football Association yet, but it doesn't sound good.

"It is pure greed".

"I am disgusted with Manchester United and Liverpool most".
