Police shoot, kill teenage girl in Columbus, Ohio

Columbus police on scene of an officer-involved shooting on Tuesday

Police said they were responding to a report of an attempted stabbing in the southern part of the city at about 4:30 p.m. local time.

Police said, and the slow motion video appeared to show, that the officer shot the teen just as she was "attempting to stab the first female that lands on the ground and then the second female that is pushed onto the vehicle".

The body camera video appeared to show one person lunging at another in front of a parked auto in a driveway before officers shot her dead, though it was hard to make out any weapons in the footage. Hazel Bryant, who identified herself as the victim's aunt, told the Columbus Dispatch that her niece got into a fight with another person at her foster home on Legion Lane. While not calling the dead teenager by name, the mayor referred to her as "a 15-year-old".

A black-handled knife was seen in the video lying on the sidewalk next to her immediately after she was shot.
