EU Countries to Permit Entry for Vaccinated Americans in Summer 2021

WH adviser on reports that vaccinated US tourists can visit EU this summer

With the intention to help India during a surge of coronavirus cases, the European Union is preparing to send rapid assistance to the South Asian country on a priority basis, the EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said on Sunday.

Underlining that the "situation is improving in the United States" and "hopefully, also in the European Union", von der Leyen said restrictions would be lifted depending on the epidemiological situation in the US. "This will enable free movement and the travel to the European Union", the president of the European Commission said.

According to the head of the EU Commission, the accelerated rate of vaccination in the United States and the talks between the authorities of the U.S. and EU regarding the mutual acceptance of vaccine certificates will allow the Commission and the EU to make adjustments in the existing policy and restore trans-Atlantic leisure travel.

"Von der Leyen did note, however, that travel will be contingent on vaccination certificates showing proof of vaccination with a vaccine approved by the European Medicines Agency (E.M.A.)", Axios added.

Dr Kalaiarasu M Periasamy said based on data from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA), there have been 168 cases of thrombosis detected worldwide since March and, during that period, about 21.6 million individuals worldwide had received the AstraZeneca vaccine jab. The news was announced by the head of the bloc's executive body in an interview with The New York Times on Sunday.

Ontario records 3,469 new COVID-19 cases, 22 deaths
Hospitalizations grew to 2,360, and of that total, 773 were now in intensive care and 537 of those patients are on a ventilator. Ontario, Alberta, B.C. and Manitoba all cut the age from 55 to 40, and Quebec is cutting it to 45 on Wednesday.

Earlier, the United Kingdom government also said it would send more than 600 medical equipment including oxygen concentrators and ventilators to India to boost its COVID-19 response.

Von der Leyen gave no timetable, but The Times said that new rules could be in place by the summer.

The EU has now started the process of checking its own citizens with "digital green certificates".

The European Union has said it wants to launch a vaccine passport for travellers, though plans have not yet been formalised.

The agency said about 80% of countries will now carry the "Do not travel" label, a Level 4. "So by July, we will have very significant numbers of people vaccinated, so will other European member states and several other countries as well".
