YVR Shooting believed gang-related

Vancouver airport

The victim of a brazen shooting at the main terminal at Vancouver International Airport this afternoon has links to the deadly Lower Mainland gang conflict, according to Postmedia News sources. No officers were hurt.

The officer didn't return fire and stopped the pursuit, he said.

Shortly after the shooting, a burned-out vehicle has been found in Surrey, which is believed to be the suspects' vehicle used in the murder, according to a report by the Vancouver Sun.

An SUV with at least two people inside was seen leaving the scene.

Delta's police chief said last week that all police departments in B.C.'s Lower Mainland were working on the shootings.

At the airport, traffic cones blocked off a section of the worldwide and Canadian departure areas and police erected white screens in front of an entrance way.

The Queensborough, Knight, and Oak Street Bridges, as well as the Massey Tunnel were closed, and the airport was placed on lockdown while police tried to figure out how many shooters there were - and if the threat was ongoing - according to RCMP spokesperson Dawn Roberts.

Anthony Fauci is urging countries like the United States to step up and help India curb the spread of COVID-19 cases. And where there are not a lot of vulnerable people around, you're not going to see a surge.

It said the airport is open and safe for airport workers and those who need to travel.

"The safety and security of our employees, community and passengers remain our priority and we are fully cooperating with the RCMP to support the investigation".

As they searched for suspects, police ordered a lockdown of "access points" to the area, prompting the closure of multiple Canada Line stations and several main roads into the city where the airport is located.

NEWS 1130's Ben Wilson said sirens went screaming to the scene around 3 p.m. Police tape has gone up, and RCMP helicopters are circling overhead.

"Next level strategies are a very intentional and strategic response, targeting individuals involved in the Lower Mainland gang conflict, and specifically targeting them with a collaborative approach with all of our law enforcement agencies, partners", he said.

Roberts also said that the possible connections to gang activity was being investigated as well as ties to a pattern of shootings in public areas in the region.
