Greene also again accused Ocasio-Cortez of supporting terrorists, falsely claiming she backs Hamas and antifa and lumping Black Lives Matter in with those extremist groups.

Ocasio-Cortez, who ignored the whole incident, later released the statement saying that Greene had been "screaming", and called for a "safe, civil" environment for members of the House. Greene challenged Ocasio-Cortez to a debate over the her Green New Deal plan in April, which Ocasio-Cortez turned down.

The paper's reporters saw Greene pursue Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and shout at her.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez represents parts of the Bronx and Queens in NY, while Ms Greene holds a district in Georgia's rural north.

Later, an AOC spokesperson said Greene "tried to begin an argument" with AOC, and when the latter "tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist sympathizer".

According to the Post, Ocasio-Cortez only responded by turning around once and throwing her hands in the air.

Since taking office, Ms Greene has positioned herself as one of the most antagonistic members of Congress.

Ocasio-Cortez's spokeswoman, Lauren Hitt, went on to call on officials in Congress to ensure a "safe, civil" environment for members, noting that another member had moved offices because of Greene.

During her weekly press conference at the Capitol on Thursday, May 13, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi denounced Greene for her "verbal assault" and "abuse" of Ocasio-Cortez, saying that it is "so beyond the pale of anything that is in keeping with bringing honor to the House".

'This is beneath the dignity of a person serving in the Congress of the United States and is a cause for trauma and fear among members, especially on the heels of an insurrection, ' she said.

'They need to defend their legislation to the people.

Greene also referred to the "squad" of four liberal congresswomen of color and included Vice President Harris, who is also a woman of color, as a member of the "JihadSquad".

The House rebuked Greene weeks after she took office, stripping her of her committee assignments over her racist and violent rhetoric. Rep. In February, she posted an anti-transgender sign outside her office, which sits across from Rep. Marie Newman (D-Illinois), whose daughter is transgender. She added that Ocasio-Cortez was "reacting like a child".
