Indian state unable to obtain Covid-19 shots directly from Moderna

COVID Vaccination halted at all 400 sites for 18-44 age group

"We've spoken to Pfizer, Moderna for vaccines, and both the companies have refused to sell vaccines directly to us".

Confident of catering to the emergency scenario through a quick scale-up in production and distribution, the Pfizer spokesperson said, "We use a centralised manufacturing approach based on multiple manufacturing sites in the U.S. and Europe". Approve Pfizer and Moderna on war footing, rather than asking states to approach these companies. "Appeal to the Centre to import vaccines and distribute to the States", Kejriwal told ANI.

Massachusetts-based biotechnology company Moderna, which has developed a messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine to tackle Covid-19, has declined the Punjab government's request for direct supply of its vaccine to the state.

"I am constrained to take up the issue of vaccination, especially for the youth of our country, which has been messed up due to the policy mis-steps and it is high time that we take corrective measures". It failed to manage and sustain its vaccination drive.

The deputy chief minister urged the Centre to approve Pfizer and Moderna on war footing.

As per the GoI allocation for Phase III (18-44 age group), the state government has been been able to buy only 4.2lakh vaccine doses, including 66,000 received yesterday.

Italian cable vehicle plunges to the ground, killing at least 12
Officials said two children, aged five and nine, were taken from the scene by helicopter to a Turin hospital. It's understood 15 people were inside the cable auto at the time of the horror incident.

"Russia gave approval to its Sputnik vaccine in August previous year and it started mass vaccination in December".

The results come just two weeks after Pfizer-BioNTech received approval from the FDA to administer its vaccine to children between ages 12 and 15. We were sleeping back then and are still sleeping.

Moderna does not have an India presence or partner.

Sisodia, who is also Delhi's nodal minister for Covid-19, said all other countries closely monitored vaccine development across the globe and placed orders well in advance. "By November, 2020, almost seven months ago, the U.S. and the European Union had procured 700 million vaccine doses". The US had started procuring vaccines right from their trial stages and today, it has enough doses for each of its citizens.

"The Centre did not even order vaccines from Serum or Bharat (Biotech) until January this year - and that too in bits and pieces", Ramakumar said.

Garg added that Punjab was exploring possibilities to procure vaccines through global tender from various manufacturers, including Sputnik V maker Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson, NDTV reported. He has also said that the Centre should formulate a national policy to vaccinate every person within the next few months by increasing the production.
