Trump blasts reported grand jury, part of 'greatest Witch Hunt'

NEW YORK, May 26 ― New York prosecutors have convened a grand jury that is expected to decide whether to indict former president Donald Trump, suggesting they may have found evidence of a crime, USA media reported yesterday.

The move, reported on Tuesday by the Washington Post, indicates that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance may have found evidence of a crime - either by Mr Trump, the Trump Organization or its executives - in an investigation that has been going for more than two years.

"We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the company is no longer purely civil in nature", Fabien Levy, a spokesperson for Attorney General Letitia James, said in a statement.

The Democratic prosecutor has been using an investigative grand jury through the course of his probe to issue subpoenas and obtain documents.

"This is a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in American history", he began his statement posted on his personal blog.

Earlier this month, Politico reported that officials in Florida, where Trump resides, were putting together "contingency plans" in the event that he faced a criminal indictment from NY.

Investigators are examining whether the Trump Organization committed tax evasion, insurance and bank fraud.

This news was first published by the newspaper Washington Post, It cited two people who knew about the matter, the arbitral tribunal was recently formed and is expected to work for about six months.

Thousands flee DR Congo volcano for neighbouring Rwanda
Others fled to the city centre from villages and neighbourhoods threatened by lava on the northern outskirts. It was previously reported that most of the lava will flow east, and Goma is located south of the volcano.

James is leading a criminal investigation into whether Trump's company misreported property values to guarantee loans and receive economic and tax breaks.

The Trump Organization's longtime chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg has been named in multiple reports as a pressure point, eyed by Manhattan prosecutors as someone who could potentially cooperate against the former president.

In February, the US Supreme Court upheld Vence's investigation by clarifying how prosecutors would execute and obtain subpoenas at Trump's accounting firm.

Mr Vance or the district attorney's office have not spoken about the grand jury proceedings, which are kept secret.

Mr. Trump, who resigned in January, denied cheating.

"It has been unfairly attacked and abused by a corrupt political system", Trump said in a statement last week.

According to CNN, prosecutors are combing through millions of pages of documents, including Trump's tax returns.

This is a developing story.
