B.C. launches into first step of COVID-19 restart plan

By Canadian Press
B.C. set to lay out restart road map as COVID-19 cases slow vaccinations increase

There are 296 people in the hospital, 97 of whom are in the ICU.

"As immunization is the foundation of our approach, it's crucial to our success that we all get registered and vaccinated", reads a joint statement from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

Horgan said the restart plan is based on science and accurately reflects how devastating the pandemic has been in B.C. "We are now in step one of the plan and are closely monitoring our progress to ensure we stay on track".

The first reopening step includes a restart of indoor dining for up to six people, limited indoor social gatherings at home and the restart of limited indoor faith gatherings.

The plan started today with the easing of restrictions that affected gatherings, sports events and dining, both indoors and outdoors. For Prince George, that means travelling anywhere in BC outside of the Lower Mainland is allowed.

Japan witnesses total eclipse of supermoon
This is the second, final, and biggest supermoon of the year, NASA says, because it is the one that passes closest to Earth. The color is the result of the sunrises and sunsets in Earth's atmosphere projected onto the surface of the eclipsed moon.

Provincial travel restrictions are scheduled to end when B.C. moves to step two of the restart plan. The Interior Health death toll remains at 150.

Eighty-four of Wednesday's cases were found in Vancouver Coastal Health, and 109 were found in Fraser Health.

The last "circuit-breaker" round of restrictions began on March 29 as the province dealt with an "exponential growth" in cases of COVID-19.

Northern Health accounted for 8 of the new cases as the region now has 117 active, a mark that dropped by 11 since yesterday (Tuesday).

A total of 137,517 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, representing 96 per cent of all recorded cases.
