Trump shuts down short-lived blog section of his website

Donald Trump reportedly hopes to be reinstated as President in August

When it then launched in early May, everyone with eyes could see that it was just a lamely formatted blog and was unlikely to provide him with the satisfaction he once enjoyed as King of Right Wing Twitter.

The former US President launched a new website in May after he was banned from a number of major social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook.

Trump's supporters also were not racing to share the site on social media.

"It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on", Miller told CNBC of the blog on Wednesday. Mr Miller confirmed via Twitter that it is a precursor to Mr Trump's return to social media, although it is unclear when or how.

Links to entries from donaldjtrump.com/desk display a 404 error, and the link to the main "desk" page shows an entry form to sign up for emails and text messages from Trump's campaign. "This is meant to be a temporary way of getting my thoughts and ideas out to the public without the Fake News spin, but the website is not a 'platform, '" Trump said in one statement.

"It is merely a way of communicating until I decide on what the future will be for the choice or establishment of a platform".

Facebook's Oversight Board recently upheld the platform's decision but ordered Facebook to review it again within six months.

In his statement, Trump, without citing a source, said tens of millions of his supporters had stopped using Facebook and Twitter "because they've becoming "boring" and nasty" - a claim not backed up by the companies' own data, which shows US usage has stayed steady or increased since Trump left office.

In a statement last week, Trump suggested that his new social media platform will be launched soon and claimed corporate media outlets posted false information about the traffic that was being directed to his "Desk" website.
