Witnesses describe London, Ont. scene where 4 pedestrians killed, one injured

The collision happened on Sunday at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Hyde Park Road between Gainsborough and Sarnia Roads

Police in London, Ont. have charged a suspect with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder after he allegedly hit five pedestrians due to their Islamic faith, killing four members of the same family.

A 9-year-old, the sole survivor and fifth family member, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m.at the intersection of Hyde Park and South Carriage roads.

So far, Waight said, police do not know of his membership "in any specific hate group". One adult male, one adult female, and two children were transported to hospital by paramedic services.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims says it is "beyond horrified" by the deadly vehicle attack that killed four members of a Muslim family in London, Ont., Sunday.

London police on Monday cordoned off a section of the parking lot in Cherryhill Mall, where a man, 20, was arrested following a crash in the city's northwest end that left four people dead.

London Mayor Ed Holder called the attack "an act of mass murder perpetuated against Muslims", per AP.

They went onto say, "This is a terrorist attack on Canadian soil".

The attack was the worst against Canadian Muslims since 27-year-old Alexandre Bissonnette gunned down six members of a Quebec City mosque in 2017.

Hancock: 'It took time to build the testing' for care homes
Michael Gove defended his department, the Cabinet Office, after it too was savaged as "terrifyingly shit" by Mr Cummings.

Police Chief Steve Williams said relatives had asked no names be released but identified the four victims as a 74-year-old woman, a 46-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl.

"We grieve for the family, three generations of whom are now deceased", Holder told reporters.

"Islamophobia and hate have no place in this country. My heart is so broken for them today".

The ages of those who died and of the child that remains in hospital are not yet known.

Police are in contact with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police about whether terrorism charges should be pursued, Waight said.

"I was shaken up, thinking it was an erratic driver", she said.

Eyewitness Paige Martin told reporters a black truck blasted past her and ran a red light as she was walking, and then she came upon the scene and saw "chaos": "It was just absolutely like something that you never want to see".

Martin said there were a few dozen people on the sidewalk, and several drivers got out of their cars to help. Eleven police officers formed a line and slowly walked in unison through the scene, scouring the ground for evidence.
