Australia's Victoria reports zero Covid-19 cases as lockdown ends

Melbourne Restrictions to Ease on Friday

Victorian COVID-19 testing commander Jeroen Weimar.

The figures are significantly less than the 40,000 test results being checked when the state's fourth lockdown began late last month.

"My personal view is that there are certainly more cases out there, I think we're talking very small numbers, but we really need to track them down", he said.

"In terms of business support, with the restrictions easing for Melbourne, but I have just outlined, we know that some businesses, so, for Melbourne, like gyms, amusement parks, dance studios and nightclubs, they will need to remain closed for a little while longer stop that is why I am announcing a further $8.36 million to provide an additional $2000 grant to support thousands of businesses eligible for the business cost assistance program that remain closed under the restrictions that I am announcing today."

He also said the state's Delta strain outbreak had been well contained.

There have been four new cases in Victoria in the past 24 hours, with 78 active cases in the state.

However, the Kappa strain is proving to be more testing.

"What I'm a little bit concerned about is being well-advanced now - we're nearly two and a half to three weeks into this outbreak - but we're still finding new branches", he said.

One new coronavirus case has been reported in Queensland after a woman left Victoria with her husband during lockdown and drove to the state's Sunshine Coast.

More than 400 people who visited the listed exposure sites at the relevant times have also come forward to Queensland Health.

On Thursday, 17,604 test results were processed and 20,752 vaccination doses were administered at state-run sites.

While New Zealand now has quarantine-free travel with Australia, the arrangement with Melbourne has been paused while the state battles with a growing number of Covid community cases.

Melbourne's lockdown is lifting at 11.59pm tonight - Thursday June 10 - but one change has been made to the planned easing of restrictions.

In metropolitan Melbourne, face masks must be worn indoors and outdoors, unless in a private home or unless an exception applies.

Outdoor mask-wearing rules remain.
