One person has been killed after a man drove a truck into a crowd of marchers at a Stonewall pride parade in Florida's Wilton Manors.

The truck was lined up with floats for the parade but hit the gas and ran into people, Local 10 News said. It then crashed into a plant nursery across the street.

Both individuals were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where one was pronounced dead. Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Ali Adamson told reporters that authorities are investigating "all possibilities", with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Authorities did not immediately give further details about the victims or say whether they think the crash was intentional.

Christina Currie told the South Florida Sun Sentinel she was with her family at the parade.

"We saw people lining up ready to move and all of a sudden this white pickup truck dashed right through the crowd barely missing Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz's auto by inches", the mayor said, cited by the media outlet.

"It was definitely an intentional act right across the lanes of traffic".

In the immediate aftermath, Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, who is openly gay, declared the melee a "terrorist attack against the LGBTQ community", adding: "This was clearly no accident".

"We're praying for the victims and their loved ones as law enforcement investigates, and I am providing them with whatever assistance I can". She said the other man was expected to survive. "May the memory of the life lost be for a blessing", she added. The driver was taken into custody for questioning, according to police.

Witnesses said the driver could be heard telling police it was an accident.

Wilton Manors police tweeted today that the public is not in danger.

Justin Knight, the president of the Fort Lauderdale Gay Men's Chorus said that to his knowledge it was a "tragic accident" and not an attack on the LGBT+ community.

"We have to look at all angles, and that is what we are doing", she said, adding that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was assisting. There is no word Saturday night if the driver will face charges.

Wilton Manors is just north of Fort Lauderdale. "Out of respect for everyone involved, the parade has been canceled and a thorough investigation is being conducted", Newton said in a statement.
