Australia to get new deputy PM after party revolt

As part of its Save Our Station campaign, BBR has spent a lot of time lobbying the former Deputy Prime Minister, who this week was replaced by Barnaby Joyce.

Mr Joyce stood down as Nationals Leader three years ago after his extra-marital affair with staffer Vikki Campion was made public at the same time as a woman accused him of sexually harassing her after an event in Canberra.

The Nationals leader initially claimed the child may not be his, insisting the identity of the father was a "grey area" - but said he would not take a paternity test and would raise the boy named Sebastian as his.

Ms Ryan said many agricultural firms were already pushing for this target and would achieve it through innovative farming and other measures.

He was joined by his partner Vicki Campion and his two sons.

But he said he had reflected during his three years on the backbench.

Better Benalla Rail (BBR) is keen to find out if there will be a new federal minister for infrastructure, transport and regional development in the coming weeks, after Member for Riverina Michael McCormack, who now holds that portfolio, was replaced as leader of the National Party.

Speaking after losing the leadership ballot, Michael McCormack made several pointed remarks about the strength of his personal life and the support he had from his wife Catherine, noting the pair were approaching their 35th wedding anniversary.

In Question Time on Tuesday, Labor MP for Franklin in Tasmania, Julie Collins, asked Mr Joyce how he responds to the concerns of women in agriculture.

Tamworth community leader Elva Shumack said she hoped Mr Joyce had "woken up to himself" and learned from past errors.

"On behalf of NHVR staff, chief executive and the board, I congratulate Barnaby and welcome him to the role", Gay said.

Local pony club leader Justine George, from nearby Kootingal, said it was "no surprise" Mr Joyce was leader again.

"Barnaby Joyce now needs to demonstrate why he should be back where he is".

Tamworth Ladies' Golf president Lynne Collier said she would "support" the Nationals' decision to make Mr Joyce their leader.

Ms Davies said she expected to cross paths with Mr Joyce during future political campaigns, but added that the party was "always bigger than one individual".

"But he puts his neck out for us and should be treated equally with respect as leader".
